My Degree, My Philosophy

My journey with essential oils has helped me improve my general health and wellbeing and support my studies in terms of focus and stress. My degree, that I am due to finish at the end of this year, is a Bachelor in Preventive Health. The philosophy behind preventive health, or health promotion, is that prevention is better than cure. As health promotion professionals our aim is to empower, enable and educate individuals and communities to take control of their own health. To encourage and inspire individuals to make healthier choices. This can include physical, mental, social, emotional and spiritual health. This holistic view of health takes into account many factors to reduce the incidence of preventable diseases. Aiming to improve the health of those who are receiving treatments for non-preventable diseases.

Through the learning I have done over the last three years, I have applied this philosophy to my own day-to-day life which includes essential oil use. I use the oils daily to support my immune health, balance stress levels and keep me alert and focused.

Here is what I do daily:

Morning:

  • Frankincense on my skin with moisturiser and FCO
  • 2 – 3 drops of lemon in warm water
  • Diffuser blend: Balance and Wild Orange

During the day:

  • Lemon, Grapefruit, Lime or Zendocrine in my water that I drink throughout the day
  • Afternoon diffuser blend (for study): Wild Orange, Peppermint, Rosemary

Evening:

  • Frankincense and Geranium on my face
  • Oregano touch on the soles of my feet
  • Lavender or Lavender Peace on my wrists and neck
  • Diffuser blend a combination of: Lavender, Lavender Peace, Clary Sage, Ylang Ylang, Cedarwood or Balance

Essential Oils I Use For Study

The best oils I have used for study always include a citrus (Either Wild Orange or Citrus Bliss) and Rosemary which I put in my diffuser at my desk. I always carry In-Tune roller when I am going to uni, sitting an exam or going to work. It really helps to support my focus and mental clarity when I most need it. When I am sitting exams, I use balance and wild orange in my diffuser, use balance in my daily moisturiser and in my sleep blend to reduce worry during the stressful time.

Consistently using the essential oils helps me to feel calmer and more relaxed, to decrease my stress and support my immunity. I think it is so important to take care of myself during stressful times because it is too easy to fall into a heap and burn out. I have experienced this a number of times in my university career but by eating healthy, exercising regularly, taking time out and using my essential oils I have been able to reduce my stress and decrease my burn-outs!

Coming to the end of my studies and hopefully making the transition to full time work I have every intention of bringing my healthy practices and essential oils for support into my workplace and continue to use them in my day-to-day life!
